    Winners of Second ESO Astronomy Camp Bursaries Announced

    Registration for secondary school students has now closed. More than 250 applications from 24 countries were submitted and the winners of the bursaries offered by ESO and the national partners have now been selected. The camp will accommodate around 50 secondary school students aged between 16 and 18. From these, the following were selected to receive either a full bursary that covers the complete cost of the camp including transport or to receive partial grants.

    The recipient of ESO’s bursary is Allan dos Santos Costa (aged 17, Brazil) for his video entry "Other Worlds. Our World". Allan commented on his selection for the bursary: “It really caught me by surprise! My whole family is very happy too; we couldn't believe it when I found out that my video had been selected as the winning entry! I'm a huge fan of ESO's work and many astronomical subjects, and I'm really excited that I'm going to see snow for the first time!"

    * From Ciencia Viva, Portugal, support for Margarida Santiago  and Diogo Ribeiro 
    * From the Petnica Science Centre, Serbia, support for Andjelka Milovanovic 
    * From the Sociedad Española de Astronomía, Spain, support for Ramón García
    * From the Svenska Astronomiska Sällskapet, Sweden, support for Jakob Reinholdsson and Elin Löfman 
    * From the Université de Genève, Switzerland, support for Vania Vicenzi 
    * From the Eyuboglu High School, Turkey, support for Baran Berdan Çimen and Baris Can Soy 
    * From the Science and Technology Facilities Council, United Kingdom, support for Sophie Abrahams and Alistair Duffey 
    * From the Royal Astronomical Society, United Kingdom, support for Awnit Singh  and Jessica Goldie 

    The camp is also supported by several visiting astronomers, including Laurent Eyer (University of Geneva, Switzerland), Fernando Ballesteros (University of Valencia, Spain) and Arif Solmaz (University of Cag, Turkey).

    Sterrenlab and BENISI EU funded project

    Sterrenlab has been selected by the EU funded project BENISI among 300 of the most promising, impacting and employment-generating social innovations in Europe. BENISI seeks to build an Europe-wide network of networks of incubators for social innovation and it will support Sterrenlab to create the conditions to be scaled up in more European localities. BENISI (May 2013 – April 2016) is and Eu funded project with the aim of addressing the Europe's need of enhancing economic growth and thus creating new and meaningful jobs for a new generation of young people in need of employment. www.benisi.eu

    Doe mee aan Mission X 2014: train als een astronaut!

    Teaching science through mystery: new project launched in Europe

    The universal appeal of magic tricks, myths and mysteries are being harnessed to help school children across Europe develop a passion for science in Teaching Enquiry with Mysteries Incorporated (TEMI)  a €3.5m EU-funded initiative, which over the next three years will help to transform how STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths) are taught in classrooms. Sterrenlab is part of a consortium of 13 partners from 10 countries coordinated by Queen Mary, University of London.

    ESO Astronomy Camp for secondary school students: win a free trip!

    The European Southern Observatory (ESO) and its Science Outreach Network is collaborating with Sterrenlab to arrange the first ESO Astronomy Camp. The camp will take place from 26-31 December 2013 at the Astronomical Observatory of the Aosta Valley, located in Saint-Barthelemy, Nus, Italy.     Disegnare con la luce - Scienza e costruzione tra stenoscopia e serigrafia

    La luce è un potente strumento creativo: lo scopriamo attraverso l'esperienza di due tecniche, la stampa serigrafica e la stenoscopia. Articolato in due percorsi, per bambini e per adulti, il laboratorio è un'esperienza del fare e del capire la scienza del fare: dall'ideazione alla stampa su tessuto, attraverso l'incisione del telaio, dalla costruzione della macchina stenopeica, alla ripresa e allo sviluppo dell'immagine. Sterrenlab con l'associazione Mur di grafici e creativi: crediamo nel DO IT YOURSELF come espressione trasversale della creatività, ad ogni età.
